Apple has responded to the issues faced by Microsoft’s AI Recall feature. This feature, designed to allow users to revisit past moments on their PC using AI and screenshots, was met with concerns regarding privacy and security. Critics highlighted that Recall could capture sensitive user information without distinguishing the content on the screen, potentially leading to privacy breaches and security risks. Security researchers expressed worries that the feature could make it easier for hackers to access a wealth of user data. Despite Microsoft’s initial claims that no screenshots were taken and that images were not uploaded to its servers, the company eventually decided to withdraw the feature following widespread criticism.
At the WWDC 2024 developer conference, Apple introduced its own AI technology, Apple Intelligence, and took the opportunity to indirectly address Microsoft’s Recall failure. Greg Joswiak, Senior Vice President of Apple’s global marketing, dismissed the question of whether Apple was disappointed by Microsoft’s failure, stating, “Are we disappointed by the failures of our competitors? The answer is no.”
