What to expect for Windows in 2024?

2023 is not a particularly exciting year for Windows. However, there are still notable points, especially the improvements coming to Windows 11 that make it more stable and complete compared to the 2021 release year.

updates for Windows 11 have brought us exciting news throughout 2023 such as a new taskbar optimized for 2-in-1 devices, system tray modernization, many improvements with accessibility, improvements to the widget panel, implementation of AI-based assistant Copilot, new design of File Explorer, improvements with applications (Notepad, Microsoft Store, Paint or Clippings)

However, this is nothing compared to what we expect in 2024. Despite the departure of Panos Panay, now former head of Windows, Microsoft’s commitment to the operating system of the company is beyond doubt.

This year, Microsoft plans to launch what could be called Windows 12 codenamed Hudson Valley. It’s a major update with the main focus being on deeply integrating AI into the operating system. AI is the highlight of 2023 as every company focuses on this new technology that has caused a lot of talk. Coming to the new market, Microsoft is leading the way thanks to its partnership with OpenAI and that is reflected in excellent products like Copilot.

Microsoft is also said to be working on a future version of Windows with better security and faster updates called CorePC. This initiative allows Windows to scale better to different devices while still supporting legacy applications. CorePC is built from the ground up and focuses on performance, security, and modularity. According to sources, Microsoft may launch the first version of CorePC this year with the desire to replace Windows shortly and ChromeOS becomes a competitor to this Microsoft product.

Besides, an issue that cannot be ignored for Windows users in 2024 is ARM. After years of living in Apple’s shadow with its excellent ARM chips, it looks like Windows will finally have a weapon to fight back, in the form of the new Snapdragon X Elite chip from Qualcomm. It’s the ideal chip for laptops and 2-in-1s thanks to its excellent power efficiency without sacrificing performance.

Windows 12, CorePC, AI, and ARM are the most notable problems for Microsoft’s operating system in 2024. The future of the platform is entrusted to them, but will everything succeed? Are not? The answer will be given within 12 months.
