The upcoming iOS 18 is expected to introduce groundbreaking AI features for the iPhone. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the new iOS will bring a host of attractive AI capabilities both on the device and in the cloud. However, only users of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be able to access these features, as these devices are powered by the superior A17 Pro chip and Neural Engine. This means that users of the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and the iPhone 14 series will not have access to the latest AI features, despite their powerful configurations.
One of the prominent AI features of iOS 18 is Siri’s enhanced ability to answer complex questions, act as a chatbot, and integrate AI technology from OpenAI.
For macOS users, Gurman mentioned that the M1 chip will be the minimum requirement to experience the new features. This indicates that Mac computers running on Intel chips will not support AI features on the device and in the cloud.
It’s worth noting that Apple may still provide some limited AI features to ineligible devices, and further details are expected to be revealed at the WWDC 2024 developer’s conference on June 10.
