The latest Apple iPhone 15 model does not support the company’s upcoming AI (artificial intelligence) features. The recently launched iOS 18 comes with numerous appealing features. Still, the Apple AI toolkit will only be accessible on iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, or later models, such as the upcoming iPhone 16, according to a report from BGR.
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo points out that the restricted RAM capacity of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus is the key reason behind their inability to run Apple AI. These models have only 6 GB of RAM, while the AI system necessitates a minimum of 8 GB to function effectively. Kuo further explains that Apple AI utilizes a large language model (LLM) with 3 billion parameters, requiring at least 2 GB of RAM to process. As a result, a minimum of 8 GB of RAM is essential for a seamless AI experience on the device.
Despite the limitations of Apple AI, users of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus can still benefit from the numerous other new features offered in iOS 18. Additionally, prioritizing processing data on the device rather than sending it to the cloud for Apple AI reflects a commitment to user privacy.
The absence of support for Apple AI in the iPhone 15 models indicates that Apple might not have fully anticipated the rapid advancements in AI technology and its impact on iPhone hardware. While this may disappoint some users, it also presents an opportunity to consider upgrading to newer iPhone models.
