Will AMD Big Navi perform better than the GeForce RTX 3080?

A Reddit user detected an inquisitive rundown while perusing through the most recent firmware from Radeon Open Compute. The last could probably contain technical details on Big Navi (or Navi 21). On the off chance that these determinations end up being affirmed later on, the card would perform better than an RTX 3080.

We are weeks away from the launch of future AMD RDNA 2 GPUs. While we recently learned about the VRAM specifications of Navi 21 and Navi 22 (16 GB and 12 GB respectively), new technical details have surfaced today.

A list spotted on Reddit reveals the possible specifications of Navi 21 and possibly those of Navi 22 and Navi 23

On r / AMD, a Reddit user spotted a curious list, found in the new ROCm (Radeon Open Compute) firmware in 3.8. The list mentions a card codenamed Sienna Cichlid, better known as Navi 21 or Big Navi, one that could also be called Radeon RX 6900 XT

Thus, this list indicates that the Navi 21 could have 80 compute units (compute unite in English or CU), as well as a 256-bit bus. If each computes unit in AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture equals 64 stream processors (SPs), that means Big Navi should benefit from 5120 SP. If this holds true – and assuming Navi 21 will benefit from TSMC’s improved 7nm engraving – Big Navi could perfectly well offer a level of performance similar to, or even better, the RTX 3080.

Let’s not forget, once again, that the possible VRAM specifications for Navi 21 (and Navi 22) also appeared on the internet a few days ago. The Navi 21, which should be the most powerful SKU offered by AMD, would be accompanied by 16 GB of dedicated memory, presumably in GDDR6.

The listing also mentions a graphics card codenamed Navy Flounder, featuring 40 CUs and a 192-bit bus, or 2560 SP. In this case, it could be Navi 22 or Navi 23, a card intended to replace the current RX 5700 XT. Anyway, the AMD conference dedicated to future Radeon RX 6000s is scheduled for October 28, 2020, at 6 p.m.
