Windows 12 could launch in 2024

Intel Chief Financial Officer David Zinsner said the company will have a solid 2024 in terms of sales, partly due to the ‘Windows refresh’, implying Windows 12 launches this year.

Microsoft is preparing for the release of Windows 11 23H2, the latest feature update for the Windows 11 operating system. However, there are many unconfirmed rumors that the company is getting ready for a major update that could be labeled as Windows 12 .

The latest evidence about this update comes not from an anonymous source inside Microsoft but from a public quote from an executive at Intel. Seeking Alpha has reposted a transcript of an event during the Citi 2023 Global Technology Conference (PC Gamer). The transcript includes an interview with Intel Chief Financial Officer David Zinsner, according to Neowin.

“We actually think 2024 will be a pretty good year for customers, especially thanks to the Windows refresh. And we think the operating systems installed today are quite old,” said David Zinsner. and a refresh is needed. We think next year could be the start of that, thanks to the Windows push. So we’re optimistic about how things will go in 2024.”. The phrase “Windows refresh” most likely refers to the next major version of Microsoft’s operating system, rather than just a feature update to Windows 11.

Microsoft has not yet publicly announced its plans for future Windows updates. However, Windows Central through anonymous sources said that the development of the next Windows operating system “has been accelerating over the past few months”. The update is now fully developed and should be completed by mid-2024, according to Windows Central. Accordingly, the appropriate time for Windows 12 to officially launch is in the fall of 2024
