YouTube has a new ‘trick’ to deal with users blocking ads

YouTube has recently taken more aggressive measures to combat ad blockers. Reports indicate that the platform has implemented a new tactic where videos automatically rewind to the end if ad blockers are detected.

Users have shared their experiences on Reddit, noting that the videos rewind as soon as they start playing, and attempts to rewind or fast forward are ineffective.

While some users speculate that this is a deliberate move by YouTube, others believe it could be a technical issue. Interestingly, some users have reported experiencing video rewinding even after disabling their ad blockers, suggesting a potential bug. This tactic marks a significant escalation in YouTube’s efforts to discourage ad blocking, following previous measures like limiting video views and displaying messages requesting users to disable ad blockers.
