Mortal Kombat 12 information was confirmed during a Warner Bros. earnings call.
According to VGC, speaking on the earnings call, Discovery CEO David Zaslav of Warner Bros. mentioned the sequel to the previously unannounced Mortal Kombat series and announced it would release this year.
Specifically, the CEO said: “There is a lot more to come, including highly anticipated games like Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League that will be released this year with anticipated launches. ambitious”.
The newest game in the series is Mortal Kombat 11, which was released in 2019, and its DLC expansion Aftermath is also coming next year.
Warner Bros. and developer NetherRealm had previously been so tight-lipped about the details of the new game that it was impossible to predict whether both would launch a sequel to Mortal Kombat. Many have speculated that NetherRealm’s next game will be the third installment in Injustice’s DC superhero fighting series.
However, journalist Jeff Grubb claimed last year that NetherRealm was prioritizing Mortal Kombat 12 due to uncertainty about the studio’s future with parent company WB Games.
