A new report reveals information related to a car project that is considered the most secret in the auto industry that Apple is working on.

According to ArenaEV, Apple’s car project called Project Titan has been implemented by the company for many years, even though at one point it was discontinued. Now, the latest report from macReports based on public data on autonomous vehicle testing from the California Transportation Authority (USA) shows that this project is making a strong comeback

In California, every driver participating in a self-driving technology test must register, and every vehicle participating in the test must also be registered with the authorities and must have a special license to drive on public roads. Due to these regulations, information about Apple’s self-driving cars may appear more visible. Specifically, the report notes that Apple has increased the number of test drivers to 201 people, while its test fleet remains at 67.

This shows that over the years, Apple’s Project Titan has evolved into three separate programs. First, self-driving car technology is going its own way, where it’s easy for Apple to leverage its expertise in hardware and software to develop advanced self-driving technology, which the company is aiming for. surpass rivals.

The second part to emerge from Project Titan is Apple CarPlay with plans to make it an operating system for any vehicle. The latest version of the software will be introduced later this year on Acura, Audi, Ford, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lincoln, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Porsche, Renault, and Volvo vehicles. The new CarPlay will fully integrate with cars and support all major functions

Finally, there is the Apple car itself, where the company is constantly changing direction on its growth path, including disbanding existing teams just to recruit new professionals, going from the idea of a car that turns everyone into a luxury car and then back to being a regular electric car.

When it comes to the safety record of the electric vehicle Apple is testing, since January 2023, Apple has only recorded a small collision when the car hit the curb and damaged the wheel. This happens while in manned mode, which means it’s a human error, not the self-driving system.

Reportedly, since Apple tested self-driving technology, it has reported 16 crashes. By comparison, Waymo reported 227 crashes, while Cruise witnessed 203 crashes. It’s also important to note that Apple has not yet applied for a driver’s license, and test drivers are always behind the wheel of test vehicles
