The PlayStation 5 remote gaming handheld will launch worldwide in November.
According to Gaming Bolt, once confirmed by Sony as a specialized device for remote gaming, PlayStation Portal will help owners stream PlayStation 5 games over Wi-Fi and experience them anywhere in the house. With limited features, Sony’s new handset seems to have little appeal to the mass market. But things don’t seem to be going as expected.
Specifically, although the completion process until the launch of the PlayStation Portal is still more than a month away, it seems that this device is attracting quite a lot of interest, especially in Japan.
As shared on Twitter by the account @Genki_JPN , pre-orders for PlayStation Portal available from September 29 have been sold out at all online retailers in Japan, including Amazon, Sony Store, and many other stores. The handheld gaming device is priced at 29,980 Yen in Japan (equivalent to 199.99 USD). The device will be released worldwide on November 15
Since its official confirmation, Portal has been met with a fair amount of skepticism and has also received criticism for its lack of cloud streaming, Bluetooth support, and other features ( such as a media player), specifically requiring users to have a PlayStation 5 gaming console.
Even if players own a PlayStation 5, they won’t be able to stream a game through a PS Plus Premium subscription and then stream it back to Portal
