Users on Reddit and the Steam community said that the new Windows 11 and Copilot updates are causing conflicts with some applications, including Wallpaper Engine, leading to various problems.
Wallpaper Engine is one of the most popular third-party applications that offers millions of wallpapers to its users. However, it seems that the recent Windows 11 update has caused this application to crash.
Last week, Microsoft released the Moment 4 update for Windows 11 with new features and Windows Copilot, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) assistant powered by Bing AI. According to initial observations, Windows Copilot may be the culprit for Wallpaper Engine performance problems.
In July, when Microsoft tested the Moment 4 update, the Wallpaper Engine development team confirmed they had conversations around the update and issues reported by Windows insiders, according to Neowin.
Following the discussion, Microsoft removed the HDR (high dynamic range) wallpaper feature and will overhaul the underlying system to maintain compatibility with wallpaper apps like Wallpaper Engine in the future.
The Wallpaper Engine team said they also received similar reports from users on the feedback center. They themselves had to reinstall the Wallpaper Engine and turn off Windows Copilot after the Moment 4 update arrived on the system. It seems that Microsoft has not completely resolved this issue before releasing the Moment 4 update to users.
Users can disable Windows Copilot if it causes errors. Recently, a law enacted in Europe prevented Microsoft from deploying Copilot to users in the European Union (EU) because of concerns about personal data insecurity
