The latest figures show that Windows 11 is currently available on 400 million monthly active devices, much less than what Windows 10 achieved.
According to Windows Central, although it was launched loudly in October 2021, Windows 11 is still having difficulty becoming popular. Windows 11 compatibility has limited this update from being released to consumers, especially due to technical factors related to TPM technology
By comparison, Windows 10 hit 400 million monthly active devices in 2016, just over a year after its release. Meanwhile, the time it took Windows 11 to reach this milestone was 2 years. In addition, Windows 10 surpassed the milestone of 1 billion active devices in 2020 – a feat that its successor product is difficult to achieve in the context of Windows 12’s upcoming appearance .
Recent rumors indicate that Windows 12 launching next year will bring a new interface as well as a strong addition to artificial intelligence (AI). There are even rumors that Microsoft is considering adding the most advanced functions of the operating system to a recurring paid subscription.
Returning to Windows 11, this is an operating system that has provided free upgrades for users of Windows 10, 7, and 8/8.1 versions since its launch. However, Microsoft recently officially blocked the free upgrade path for Windows 7 and 8/8.1 users. This further slows down the deployment of this operating system to users.
Despite the above numbers, the fact that Windows 11 is available on 400 million monthly active devices is also considered a success for Microsoft when the company initially only set much more modest goals
