Modern Warfare II will use Blizzard’s Call of Duty controversial SMS Protect system.
According to Engadget, Blizzard has just said that when the next Call of Duty game launches on October 28, fans will need to connect their phone numbers to their Battle.net accounts to be able to play the game.
” Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Overwatch 2 accounts, and newly created Call of Duty: Modern Warfare accounts will be required to link to a phone number,” according to updated information on the home’s support page. Release.
The news of Blizzard’s request comes after a week of controversy surrounding SMS Protect, the phone linking system used by Overwatch 2 and, soon, Modern Warfare II.
After a problematic launch and DDoS attack that prevented many people from playing Overwatch 2 on release day, Blizzard has announced that they will be narrowing the eligibility requirements for the game. By requiring players to link a phone number to their Battle.net account.
In addition, the system was controversial because some prepaid subscribers could not use SMS Protect, typically customers of the Cricket Wireless mobile service who found themselves unable to play games.
