Chat on Facebook Messenger and Instagram will soon have end-to-end encryption

Messenger and Instagram Direct are the most popular messaging services. Even though millions of people use them every day, Messenger and Instagram Direct still have a lack of privacy because they don’t encrypt end-to-end chats.

Facebook currently promises to implement end-to-end encryption for Messenger and Instagram Direct as early as 2022.

Facebook first promised the addition of End-to-end encryption to Instagram Direct and Messenger in 2019. However, it has dedicated this time and is even experimenting with various Messenger features. on End-to-end compatibility.

In a new message on the FB editorial team, Facebook shared its security plan and highlighted the results of various studies. While we’re working on end-to-end encryption for Messenger and Instagram Direct, it won’t be fully encrypted for some time in 2022.

In addition to Messenger and Instagram, Facebook also owns WhatsApp, which is the company’s only messaging service with default end-to-end encryption for chats.

In the meantime, you can initiate an encrypted Messenger conversation using the Secret Conversations feature in the app. This feature was first rolled out in 2016.
