EA is canceling Apex Legends Mobile and Battlefield Mobile

In addition to the two canceled titles, EA also plans to shut down a mobile game development studio.

According to VGC, Electronic Arts (EA) has announced that they will discontinue support for Apex Legends Mobile and cancel Battlefield Mobile before the official release.

Additionally, VentureBeat also reports that EA will be shutting down the Industrial Toys developer behind the Battlefield Mobile title. The studio is headed by Bungie founder and former CEO Alex Seropian and was acquired by EA in 2018.

Apex Legends Mobile launched in May 2022 and was named Game of the Year on the App Store and Google Play last year, while Battlefield Mobile is in beta.

servers Apex Legends Mobile will go offline as of May 1, 2023.

As for the reason for Apex Legends Mobile being discontinued, EA said in a blog post that: “At Respawn, we aim to provide players with consistent gameplay. For Apex Legends Mobile, after the release After a good start, the game’s content system gradually fell short of standards in terms of quality, quantity, and rhythm. For this reason, after many months of working with the company’s development partners company, we have made the joint decision to stop supporting the game.”

“While disappointing, we’re proud of the game we’ve released, are grateful for the support of the Apex Legends community, and the company is confident that this is the right decision for players.”

Apex Legends Mobile was developed by a team of experts at Respawn in conjunction with Tencent’s Lightspeed & Quantum Studios, which is the team of developers behind PUBG Mobile.

Like Apex Legends for consoles and PCs, this mobile title is free to play. The game also features its own battles, collectibles, and unlockable unique items. Respawn says the balance of virtual currency in Apex Legends Mobile can be used until the game closes and the company will not issue refunds for real money transactions.

Regarding Battlefield Mobile, EA said that the decision to stop developing the game was to focus the entire company’s vision on the Battlefield franchise and meet the expectations of the player community for larger versions.
