Google has recently announced that the Chrome browser now has a new Gemini shortcut that enables users to access the AI-powered assistant anywhere in the browser. users can easily start a conversation with Gemini by typing “@gemini” in the address bar, followed by the prompt they want to enter. Once they press enter, the Gemini session is uploaded to the browser, and the user is presented with a new chat window with the requested prompt.
If the user is logged into a Google account, the process should be seamless, with query responses coming from gemini.google.com. Although it is not as deeply integrated as Microsoft’s Edge and Copilot, it still saves users from having to navigate to a separate website or app.
By accessing Gemini directly from the Chrome address bar, users can enjoy several benefits. They can quickly submit queries, receive AI-powered assistance, and get the desired response without leaving their current browser session.
However, it’s worth noting that during testing, all prompts made via browser shortcuts were routed to Google’s regular Gemini language model, regardless of whether the user had access to Gemini Advanced or not. For instance, even if a user had access to Gemini Advanced with an article author account on Howtogeek, every time a Chrome shortcut was used, the browser session automatically switched to Gemini right before the prompt was created.
Gemini is a popular mobile app that offers advanced features to assist users in task management. While Gemini Advanced is suitable for complex tasks, the app has a new shortcut that is more suited for casual or quick reminders. For simple answers, users can use the Chrome shortcut above. However, if you want to use the app to get answers to more advanced questions, Gemini Advanced users need to access the website manually. Currently, the app is available in 150 countries for both Android and iPhone devices. However, it’s important to note that the European Union (EU) and the UK are absent markets as Gemini is yet to launch there.
