Apple recently made updates to its product classification list. The iPhone 5s has been placed on the obsolete list, while the 6th generation iPod touch and the 2015 version of the 21.5-inch iMac are now categorized as classic products.
For users still using the iPhone 5s, it’s advisable to consider upgrading to a newer iPhone model. As a product on the obsolete list, Apple will no longer provide hardware services for the iPhone 5s, including battery replacement.
Authorized service providers will also be unable to order parts for any obsolete products. Apple designates a device as obsolete when it hasn’t been sold for more than 7 years.
The iPhone 5s, launched in September 2013, introduced the Touch ID fingerprint sensor and the A7 chip, the first 64-bit chip available on the iPhone.
In contrast, the iPod touch (6th generation) and the 2015 version of the 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display have been classified as classic products. Apple provides repair services and allows parts orders for classic products for up to 2 more years, based on part availability.
