Microsoft pushes into the cloud gaming segment

The Redmond giant is beefing up its cloud gaming business with a new deal.

According to GameBeat, Microsoft recently announced a 10-year partnership with the European cloud gaming platform Nware. The handshake between the two companies promises that Xbox will be able to stream their PC games on Nware’s platform.

The collaboration was shared on Twitter by Microsoft president Brad Smith. According to Smith, the company aspires to offer more games to users across multiple platforms

$69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard This announcement comes shortly after it was reported that the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced that it was blocking Microsoft. The CMA’s main objections stemmed from concerns that the acquisition would strangle the cloud gaming market and reduce competition in the sector. Microsoft has said it opposes the decision.

In its summary of conclusions, the CMA said Microsoft has a current cloud gaming market share of 60-70%. Microsoft has proposed a remedy to offset the decline in competition with a series of changes to the company’s operations and way of doing business over the next 10 years. In response, the UK agency said Microsoft’s proposal would not restore competition if the deal was successful.

Microsoft has also made similar deals with other cloud gaming platforms such as GeForce Now and Boosteroid
