Android 14 will have an upgrade over current versions when it comes to PlayStation’s DualSense Edge premium controller capabilities.
According to Android Police, the DualSense Edge is Sony’s recently released gaming controller. This feature-packed product is Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s Xbox Elite controller.
However, the new controller cannot work with Android devices, while the PS4’s DualShock 4 and the PS5’s standard DualSense both have this capability. Now, that’s changing with Android 14 coming out.
According to Android expert Mishaal Rahman, Android 14 has added some system files related to DualSense Edge, providing the operating system and phones running it with compatibility with PlayStation’s ultra-premium controllers. Specifically, Android 14 now properly supports the layout of DualSense Edge and button presses that have been assigned to input events in Android.
In addition to these layout files, the user’s device will also need to install a new hid-PlayStation kernel patch. Since the new controller has a different product ID, the current driver from Sony does not work with it.
This is the tradition of Android and PlayStation, as the operating system always needs to manually add support for new PlayStation controllers, and Sony always has to step in. In the past, DualSense controllers were often not properly supported by phones until Android 12 came out.
