Qualcomm has just introduced Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 mobile chip to succeed the success of Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 that it launched last year.
According to SlashGear platform , Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is a mid-range chip manufactured on the same 4nm technology process as its predecessor, but this chip comes with a faster Prime Kryo CPU core based on ARM’s Cortex-X2 core. for speeds up to 2.9 GHz.
In addition, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 also has a trio of high-performance cores clocked at 2.49 GHz and a cluster of 5 lower-performance cores to handle tasks that require less power. Qualcomm says its new product delivers a performance boost of up to 50% over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, while the upgraded Adreno GPU delivers twice the graphics power at intensive tasks.
To enhance gaming performance, the company also included some Snapdragon Elite Gaming features such as Adreno Frame Motion Engine and Volumetric Rendering. In addition, the chip also supports Auto Variable Rate Shading (VRS), which automatically adjusts resolution based on focus-specific on-screen content during gameplay to deliver the best visual experience. The improved AI engine is said to be twice as fast and up to 40% more power efficient this time around. Upgrades have also been made in the charging and connectivity department, allowing Quick Charge 5 support to charge from 0 – 50% in just 5 minutes, an improvement from Quick Charge 4+ in the Snapdragon 7 version. Gen 1.
In the photographic sector, the triple ISP architecture now supports 18-bit color depth, an upgrade over 14-bit on its predecessor. Qualcomm says the updated Spectra ISP can now collect 4,000 times more light data to deliver higher dynamic range and greater clarity. The new chip also supports up to 200 MP photo capture, while video recording is limited to 108 MP resolution and 30 frames per second.
Supported screen resolutions have also been increased from FHD+ to QHD at 120 Hz, while the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 Wi-Fi modem has been replaced by the newer FastConnect 6900. This allows the maximum Wi-Fi download speed to increase from 2.9 Gbps to 3.6 Gbps. Notably, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is the first chip in the product line to support 5G/4G Dual-Sim Dual Active (DSDA) technology that allows two SIM cards to be in standby at the same time.
