macOS continues to be abandoned by a famous game, this time the shooter Counter-Strike 2.

According to Neowin, after months of closed testing, Valve officially launched Counter-Strike 2 on Steam last week. However, the new game says it only supports Windows and Linux, absolutely no macOS. Now, Mac users who are fans of shooting games have received more sad news, as Valve has confirmed that they have no plans to release Counter-Strike 2 on macOS.

In Steam’s FAQ forum, the company said it will stop supporting older hardware, including operating systems that use DirectX 9 and 32-bit. As part of this move, the company also no longer supports Counter-Strike on macOS

According to Valve, DirectX 9, 32-bit, and macOS systems combined account for less than 1% of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s active players. Therefore, Counter-Strike 2 will only support 64-bit Windows and Linux versions.

26GB update This statement comes after Counter-Strike: Global Offensive made the game unplayable on macOS systems. Valve has refunded Mac users’ Prime Status upgrades, signaling the end of official support and development for one of the oldest game franchises on Apple devices.

Although launched in 2012, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is still extremely popular, the game attracts tens of millions of players every month. Valve’s macOS cuts may disappoint hundreds of players, but this represents less than 1% of all users.

Another reason why Counter-Strike 2 doesn’t come to macOS is because Apple lacks native Vulkan graphics API support. While the open-source library MoltenVK can bring Vulkan to the Mac, it still lacks some of the advanced features that Counter-Strike 2 requires.
