Vision Pro, a virtual reality headset, is being hailed as a revolutionary tool for surgeries by surgeons in different countries who have had the opportunity to work with it. According to AppleInsider, after Vision Pro was used in surgeries in the US and UK, it was also used in Brazil for shoulder arthroscopy procedures to treat rotator cuff rupture.
At Jaraguá do Sul Hospital in Santo Domingo, Brazil, Dr. Bruno Gobbato and his team performed the surgery using Vision Pro. They usually perform this type of surgery using a camera placed on the injured area and looking at a screen. Previously, Gobbato used Microsoft’s HoloLens for such surgeries, but the camera in Vision Pro has a much higher resolution and better handles light rays focused on the patient’s shoulder.
Gobbato praised the device, saying, “Arthroscopic shoulder surgery uses a camera inside the joint, and surgeons perform it by looking directly at a screen. With this device, I can view images on the screen in high resolution, as well as see the patient’s examination results and 3D models in real-time.”
During the surgery, Gobbato used an app called MyMako, which is a 3D program that allowed him to create models of what he would do during surgery. The 3D models were made available to him during the actual procedure.
The surgery was performed quickly thanks to the Vision Pro, and the device allowed Gobbato to see his notes, the patient’s X-rays, and the live camera at the same time.
Although currently only available to buy in the US, Vision Pro is expected to be released in other countries soon.
