A well-known face of the Xbox franchise over the past two decades, Larry Hryb is leaving the company.
According to The Verge, on Friday, July 14, Xbox employee Larry Hryb, better known by the alias “Major Nelson,” announced that he was leaving Microsoft.
Hryb is a veteran face who has represented many of Xbox’s marketing since the days of the original Xbox and Xbox Live streaming services, in addition to the launch of Xbox 360 and more for many years. years from now to the present
“After 20 memorable years, I have decided to take a step back and work on the next chapter of my career,” he wrote on Twitter. “Taking a moment and thinking about all we’ve done together, I’d like to thank the millions of gamers around the world for making me a part of their lives.”
Earlier in January, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said changes in the third quarter of this year would cut 10,000 employees of the company or about 5% of its total 220,000 employees. Hryb’s departure is likely to be part of the company’s Washington State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) layoffs, leaving 276 employees in customer service, support, and sales.
Hryb’s activities while at Xbox were hosting Microsoft’s official Xbox Podcast and regularly sharing news from the Xbox team with over 1 million followers on Twitter. Although he is leaving, he said that the podcast will be “on hiatus” over the summer and will return “in a new format”.
