Meta’s Threads social network quickly attracted more than 100 million signups in its first days. However, that explosive growth appears to have leveled off.

According to SimilarWeb traffic, Threads on Android are on a downward trend. This website data analysis company recorded 49.3 million users accessing the application on July 7, a day after Threads officially launched. By July 10, the number of daily active users dropped to 36.6 million

“Additionally, the average usage time of Threads users in the US dropped from about 20 minutes on July 6 to just over 8 minutes on July 10,” the company added to PCMag. A similar situation occurs on a global scale.

SensorTower, another internet data analytics company, also monitors Threads usage and issues a similar report. On CNBC, the company said the number of daily active users of Threads decreased by about 20%, and the time used also decreased by 50%.

The statistics also show that users subscribe to and view content on Threads but have little interest in tracking. That is a worrying sign. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram is also insecure about this. However, he said that the priority now is to attract people to use, before thinking about making money.

From another perspective, the phenomenon of Threads cooling down will benefit rival Twitter, the social network owned by Elon Musk. The billionaire who runs both Tesla and SpaceX was annoyed when Meta announced Threads. He even wanted to sue his opponent for this.

Meta is also working on a number of new features that could give Threads more traction, including an edit button and a desktop mode. Threads are currently available on Android and iOS apps. The web version works in read-only mode
