While for most American voters the concerns will be political or social, others seem concerned about the stance taken by pro-Bitcoin candidates. It is in any case the bet of certain politicians such as Ron DeSantis.
On Twitter, a poll conducted by Michael Saylor, a great supporter of Bitcoin, shows a clear result: the vast majority of respondents will choose their candidate according to his position on Bitcoin. A poll strongly biased by the community of the person concerned, but which is only one element among a set of statements that seem to go in one direction: during the American presidential election of 2024, Bitcoin will be a subject of debate
Outgoing President Joe Biden himself has taken sides in the debate by placing himself in an unfavorable position to cryptocurrencies, for which he favors regulations and a strict framework. More specifically, he was planning until recently to introduce a 30% tax on the mining of Bitcoin and other cryptos, a project abandoned at the last minute.
Surprisingly – as the man funded his campaign with NFTs – Donald Trump also doesn’t seem very supportive of cryptos, which he considers a scam. The former president has not announced any specific measures in the field. Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies are therefore not so much a point of cleavage between parties as within them.
It is indeed the outsiders of each party who have the most favorable positions for Bitcoin. This is particularly the case of Ron DeSantis who has made it his hobbyhorse since he explicitly mentioned his desire to protect Bitcoin against any prohibition measure in his candidacy announcement on Twitter
Similarly, Democrat Robert Kennedy Jr. is also Bitcoin-friendly. He is also the first candidate to have accepted donations in the famous cryptocurrency. The same goes for the few other candidates from both parties who have taken a stand on the issue.
It will therefore be especially during the primaries, particularly the Republican primaries, which promise to be tighter than the Democratic primaries dominated by Joe Biden, that the question of Bitcoin will be debated. A stand in his favor is for the outsider candidates a way to stand out from the two giants of their party
