The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has led to an increase in demand for computer hardware and RAM, resulting in higher PC performance requirements. Recently, the CEO of a company in China stated that the amount of RAM required for AI-enabled PCs, or PC AI, will significantly increase in the coming years. In response, giant CPU manufacturers like Intel warn users about the potential problem.
During a recent technology event, the General Director of Intel Technology in China, Gao Yu, discussed the future of PC AI. He stated that an AI PC with a minimum configuration would need 32 GB RAM and that the current 16 GB RAM standard would be eliminated. The company also plans to encourage partner companies to ship PCs with 64 GB RAM early next year.
The increasing capabilities of AI require more processing power from CPUs and greater data processing capabilities in PCs. Even AI models like Copilot built into Windows 11 require more memory to run without relying on the cloud.
Previously, companies like Microsoft increased the base RAM requirement for AI PCs to 16 GB. However, Intel believes that the development of AI has made the 16 GB RAM standard irrelevant, and 32 GB will soon become the norm. As a result, consumers who want to invest in computers for the AI experience on PC will need to invest more in memory, which may also increase the price of RAM and PCs.
