Adobe Acrobat is supplemented with Generative AI so users can ‘converse’ with PDF files.

According to TechRadar, Adobe has joined the artificial intelligence (AI) wave by implementing their own AI assistant on both Acrobat and Reader applications.

The AI-powered chat tool, currently in beta, will be able to provide summaries, answer questions, and help format information for sharing via email in PDF applications. popular

Even though most of us do our work from word processing applications, PDF still plays an important role in document security. Adobe estimates there are currently 3,000 billion PDF documents in circulation worldwide, and claims its latest update will bring generative AI to everyone.

The new tool will be based on AI and ML (machine learning) models similar to Acrobat Liquid Mode, an existing tool that adapts PDF layouts to small screen models.

Besides the usual summary generation, users of the new tool will also benefit from smart citations designed to verify the source of answers from the chatbot, as well as links to help navigate to important information in long PDF files.

Adobe also pledges not to store or use customer data for AI training without consent. The company says this is just the beginning and more features will be added in the future, including:

  • Extract information from many different documents and document types.
  • Edit, format, and create content.
  • Improve collaboration.

Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Document Cloud at Adobe, commented: “Generative AI promises a smarter document experience by transforming the information within PDFs into actionable content, knowledge and professional”.

The beta version will be free for individual users and teams of Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro, with the English version being tested first and more languages gradually rolling out later. Once widely available, Adobe will charge for the AI assistant tool.
