Adobe plans to incorporate an AI-powered image creation tool into its Photoshop software later this year. This move comes as Adobe faces growing competition from companies like OpenAI, Midjourney, and Stability AI, which offer similar services that generate images from text prompts.
To address this challenge, Adobe is developing its image-generating AI system known as Firefly. The system is trained on data that Adobe owns to avoid copyright infringement claims against users. Previously, Adobe had released image creation tools in Photoshop that could fill in or expand portions of existing images. However, at a conference in London, the company announced that it will soon launch full image generation capabilities, based on a new AI system called Firefly Image.
According to Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s chief digital technology officer, Firefly will pull from reference sources, eliminating the need for users to provide detailed descriptions of what they want. This new AI system is expected to be incredibly powerful, providing users with a powerful and intuitive image creation experience.
While Adobe plans to release a beta version of the software to some users, there are no specific plans for when the feature will be widely deployed. Nonetheless, this move by Adobe is expected to significantly enhance the image creation capabilities of its Photoshop software, providing users with even more powerful and flexible editing tools.
