Microsoft has just confirmed in its official documentation that some users may have problems installing the latest security update for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2.

According to Neowin, some users of versions 22H2 and 23H2 of Windows 11 said they cannot install the February 2024 update normally. Once the update reaches 96%, it will stop responding and an error message 0x800F0922 will appear. The message content displayed “Something did not go as planned. No need to worry – undoing changes. Please keep your computer turned on”, while some others received a similar message in Windows Update saying “We could not install this update, but you can try again (0x800f0922)”.

There is a workaround for those affected. Microsoft says uninstalling the hidden folder C:\$WinREAgent will fix the problem and allow the update to be installed by redownloading the KB5034765 patch. The company also said it is working to resolve this error in an upcoming update.

Although error 0x800f0922 does not affect Windows 10 users, they have recently encountered some problems related to WinRE. In January 2024, Microsoft announced that extending the WinRE partition is necessary to install the latest security updates, otherwise, Windows 10 will send the error message “0x80070643 – ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE” to users.

Microsoft did not say what caused error 0x800f0922 when updating Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 but did not rule out the possibility that it could be related to recent WinRE problems on Windows 10.

Previously, Microsoft also resolved another bug in Windows 11 that prevented applications from recording, playing, or capturing video using the WVC1 codec. To fix that bug, users are required to install updates KB5034204 or KB5034765
