In an effort to introduce young girls to career options in the ICT industry, MTN Ghana’s Women in Technology (WIT), in partnership with the Ministry of Communication and Digitization, hosted an Open Day of the National Girls-in-ICT Day Celebration.

The event also aims to prepare young females for careers in ICT by providing them with the necessary expertise in the field through mentoring programs, workshops, and open-day events.

These outstanding WIT members, who work in the ICT and technology division of MTN Ghana, got the rare chance to mentor over 100 Girls-in-ICT (GIICT) from the Bono East and Ahafo regions.

MTN Ghana’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Madam Adwoa Wiafe, stated at the occasion that the mentorship session and other celebration events were designed to help the ladies better grasp the dynamics of the workplace in the ICT industry.

Women in the ICT industry have a platform to share their personal and professional experiences with young girls during mentoring sessions. This supports and directs the girls’ future professional decisions.

She claims that MTN Ghana pledged GHc12 million to the Ministry of Communication and Digitization in support of the Girls in ICT program as part of its 25th-anniversary celebration.

The business committed to investing $25 million USD in a number of projects, including the building of a cutting-edge Digital ICT center.

At a presenting ceremony in Accra, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, received the first portion of the grant.

The grant is intended to help the government’s initiatives to empower and inspire girls to explore studies and jobs in ICT by covering the project’s costs over a three-year period.

She claims that the business is now erecting a $25 million ICT Hub in Accra with the intention of fostering employment growth and socioeconomic advancement in Ghana and all of Africa.

In order to support skill development for Ghana’s young, the Ghana ICT Hub also sought to create an ICT ecosystem in the fields of health, agriculture, and education through on-site and remote access delivery.

In order to stay relevant and competitive as the globe changes, MTN is increasing its efforts to provide kids with ICT and digital skills. To provide females a chance, the Open Day for the females-in-ICT Initiative was established.

It is a global effort that all International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Member States, including Ghana, accepted in 2012.
