After billionaire Elon Musk completed the purchase of Twitter in October 2022, Meta is said to have started developing a separate social media platform application, codenamed Project 92.
According to Engadget , during a recent companywide meeting Product Manager Chris Cox , Meta presented a set of user interface mocks to employees in attendance, which quickly leaked online
Project 92’s existence was first officially confirmed in March when the company told reporters, ” We are exploring an independent decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there is an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates on their interests.”
Now, the set of design photos of Project 92 that were shared internally are also leaked online. The new platform, which Cox calls ” our response to Twitter ,” will be a standalone program, based on Instagram, and integrate ActivityPub — the same network protocol that powers Mastodon .
The leaked images include a screenshot of the secure login, a main feed that looks like Twitter’s existing mobile app, and a reply screen.
“We’ve received feedback from creators and public figures who are concerned about the need for a healthy platform that they trust to distribute content . ” Cox said in its statement. Currently, according to the source, a number of celebrities are said to have participated in Meta’s project
