Qualcomm, the leader in mobile processor technology, is expected to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip in October 2021. This chip is set to offer a powerful performance to high-end smartphones. However, recent rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip may consume more power than its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip is expected to be manufactured on TSMC’s advanced 3nm N3E process that is designed to optimize energy savings. However, due to its focus on high performance, this chip may consume more power than expected. Smartphone manufacturers may need to equip devices with bigger batteries to tackle this issue.

According to rumors from the Digital Chat Station account on Weibo, flagship phones using Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 may come with a battery capacity of up to 5,500 mAh, which is higher than most smartphones today. The tested phones are believed to be from Chinese brands such as OPPO, Xiaomi, Vivo, or other brands.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip features a “2 + 6” structure with 2 high-performance cores and 6 energy-saving cores, similar to the MediaTek Dimensity 9300, which is known to consume more power than its competitors. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip may be equipped with higher clock speeds than the previous generation, leading to more power consumption.

However, it is important to note that these are just rumors and not yet confirmed by Qualcomm. We need to wait for more official information from Qualcomm to get an accurate assessment of the power consumption of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
