At the Wonderlust event taking place early this morning, September 13, Apple officially announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus duo with the highlight being the Dynamic Island inherited from the iPhone 14 Pro.

The iPhone 15 generation will not have a completely new design. Instead, this year’s iPhone generation looks almost identical to its predecessor, with the basic line (iPhone 15) continuing to use a 6.1-inch screen.

Most recognizable is that all iPhone 15 models will come with Dynamic Island. This pill-shaped section – first introduced on iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max – provides a new way to view notifications and help users interact with apps.

The 2022 iPhone 14 generation also retains much of the iPhone 13’s design. The difference is that there is no mini version and one of the big additional features for the iPhone 14 is SOS Emergency, an emergency texting system. Works via communication satellites when users are out of cellular range.

The iPhone 15 duo will come in pink, yellow, green, blue and black. The device uses an OLED Super Retina screen, supporting content using Dolby Vision image technology with a screen brightness of up to 1,600 nits and a maximum of 2,000 nits in sunlight, this is twice the number of the iPhone 14.

Besides the dynamic upgrade, the iPhone 15 also updates the camera system with the main camera having a sensor of up to 48 MP compared to the 12 MP of the iPhone 14. Users will also not need to remember to switch to portrait mode when taking photos. The camera can automatically identify human and pet subjects to capture depth of field for later correction.

The remaining highlight is that the iPhone 15 generation will be the first generation to completely break with the Lightning cable standard, instead using a USB-C cable. Apple said that the AirPods line from this year will also use this cable standard.

This is also the generation of iPhone that Apple focuses on using recycled metal sources. Apple said it used 75% recycled aluminum, 100% recycled cobalt in batteries, and gold from circuit boards. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus duo are priced at 799 and 899 USD respectively.
