Bill Gates – co-founder of Microsoft shared his views on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on education, health care, and the workforce.

According to Insider, billionaire Bill Gates said innovation is the reason why people’s lives have improved so much over the past century. Electricity, cars, airplanes, and advances in medicine have made the world a better place. However, Mr. Gates believes that high-income countries like the US need another 18-24 months to apply AI widely. Meanwhile, African countries need about 3 more years to do the same thing.

AI at work

Bill Gates revealed that 2023 marks the first time he will use AI at work. Compared to many years ago, the world has a better understanding of the tasks that AI can perform on its own and act as a “co-pilot” to support users.

Although AI helps people dramatically increase their productivity, many people believe that this technology is “stealing” workers’ jobs. Many studies conducted in 2023 always revolve around the issue of which professions are most susceptible to being replaced by AI.

To avoid data leaks, some companies have developed AI tools and banned employees from using other chatbots. Despite security concerns, there are still companies that allow employees to use available tools like ChatGPT to save costs.

However, Mr. Gates admitted that he does not fully understand the application of AI in the workplace.

AI in healthcare

Billionaire Bill Gates said that the application of AI in medicine is in the early stages and needs a lot of time to be implemented. This work is expected to create the foundation for a technology boom by the end of this decade.

Some scientists have leveraged AI’s data analysis capabilities to predict and identify antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and high-risk pregnancies, and assess a patient’s risk of HIV infection.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation – a non-profit organization run by Bill Gates and his ex-wife has donated billions of dollars to medical research worldwide to develop and provide vaccines to poor countries.

AI in education

Previously, Mr. Gates predicted that AI would change education in the next 5-10 years by creating personalized learning content based on each student’s learning style. Teachers still play an important role in teaching but must adapt to new technology to build an effective learning environment.

Besides, billionaire Bill Gates also expressed his impression of AI tool projects for education such as Khanmigo and MATHia. AI tutors designed based on different cultural and linguistic contexts can meet the needs of students around the world, Mr. Gates said.
