Besides integrating ChatGPT into Bing and Office, Microsoft is also said to be pushing OpenAI’s AI (artificial intelligence) engine support to become the focus of the upcoming Windows 12.

According to Winbuzzer, although Windows 11 life cycle is still long since its launch in October 2021, Windows 12 seems to be coming soon. Microsoft is said to have started the development of its next operating system in March 2022 and even demonstrated elements of the platform at Ignite 2022 in October of the same year.

Microsoft’s next-generation operating system version will be codenamed Next Valley. The company is said to be transitioning to a three-year launch cycle for new Windows platforms, meaning Windows 12 could be released as soon as October 2024. Either way, Microsoft will embed AI deep into Windows 12 and make it a core feature of the upcoming operating system and its accompanying apps.

At the beginning of the month, g The company’s product manager Panos Panay confirmed the future AI plans. “Literally, AI will reinvent the way you do things on Windows,” he said. Think language models, genetic code models, and visual models – they’re all powerful, fun, useful, and personal. But they’re also very computationally intensive, which we haven’t been able to do before. We’ve never seen workloads this dense before, but now they are. They will need an operating system that blurs the line between cloud and system, which is what we are doing.”

Panay’s commitment was later echoed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who said AI would not only provide a framework for Windows 12 but be ubiquitous across the company’s services. “Every Microsoft product will have some of the same AI capabilities to completely transform the product,” he said.

Essentially, the company will tie everything together, whether it’s AI-driven natural language translations to Skype, merging Bing capabilities with ChatGPT chatbots, or integrating OpenAI ‘s ChatGPT engine into Office applications.

After all, Microsoft is moving towards an AI future, and OpenAI is central to the company’s plans. Before that, it invested billions of dollars in OpenAI. The close relationship between Microsoft and OpenAI is so strong that it is hard not to consider OpenAI simply a division of Microsoft. Together, the two companies will use AI to reshape Microsoft products for consumers and businesses. ChatGPT will be at the heart of Windows 12.
