Paint.NET
Paint.NET could well be a rare gem. Started as a university project by two Washington State University graduates, Paint.NET is sort of a (much) improved version of Microsoft Paint with some ideas borrowed from Adobe Photoshop CC 2022.
The Paint.NET tool thus seeks to democratize access to photo editing and image processing, for all users, while incorporating the practical tools of its illustrious competing software Adobe and Microsoft. Like Microsoft Paint, Paint.NET allows you to work in-depth on photos and carry out many types of retouching: color, contrast, brightness, etc. As with the original Windows tool, Paint.NET makes it possible to process graphic files in many formats (jpg, png, etc.).
No need to look for the power of the expensive leader, on the other hand, Paint.NET offers interesting features for photo editing. The editing software ensures good layer management, the addition of basic filters as well as various colorimetric adjustment tools, perfect for image processing.
Another notable feature of Paint.Net is history management and the ability to save changes to settings specific to each tool. In terms of compatibility, it supports the most common file formats but excludes the most practical, namely the PSD and XCF extensions respectively used by Adobe Photoshop and GIMP.
Paint.NET also relies on a strong community that provides many free plugins and extensions to download, to add new effects to the software.
