Indian Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal revealed that Apple could manufacture up to one in four iPhone 15s in the country this year.

According to BGR , Apple will launch the iPhone 15 series in the fall of this year, and rumors say the company has started the test production of the iPhone 15 early through supplier Foxconn. The report also says that Apple wants to speed up iPhone production in India as quickly as possible, essentially allowing the company to produce new iPhones in India as soon as Foxconn factories in China start. manufactures these iPhone models. Besides, the Foxconn facility in India can also mass produce all new iPhone models, not just some iPhone 15 models.

Now, Mr. Piyush Goyal said Apple is aiming to increase up to 25% of new iPhone production in India instead of about 5-7% of current operations.

Apple has yet to confirm these claims, but various reports over the years suggest that the company is looking to reduce its reliance on the iPhone supply chain in China. They have reason to speed up production of new iPhones outside of China in the fourth quarter of 2022, when iPhone output was severely reduced due to factory blockades related to Covid-19 prevention. Even if China has abandoned the “Zero Covid” policy, the harm to iPhone 14 Pro production is still so great that Apple has lost millions of iPhones during the busiest shopping season of the year.

Apple began assembling the iPhone 14 in India last year, although that’s only behind China, but this is the first year Apple has manufactured the latest iPhone models in India.

Foxconn continues to be the main iPhone assembler for Apple. The company will manufacture the iPhone 15 at its Sriperumbudur factory in eastern India, on the outskirts of Chennai. In addition, Apple will also start manufacturing iPhones at other production lines in India in the near future.
