A Microsoft patent has recently been published, describing a backpack with integrated AI (artificial intelligence).

According to MSPoweruser, Microsoft filed for a patent demonstrating the AI backpack concept in May 2023. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) published the application for public comment on August 24, 2023.

Microsoft’s new smart backpack powered by artificial intelligence can identify surrounding objects, perform contextual tasks, access information from the cloud, and interact with devices. other. The backpack has a built-in camera, microphone, speakers, network connectivity, processor, and storage.

Microsoft says digital assistants are becoming more versatile thanks to advances in computing. Improvements in wearable digital assistants that can perform a variety of tasks for the benefit of the user.

In its patent application, Microsoft outlines all the things the AI backpack can do in life. For example, users can wear it while skiing and ask in which directions they can skate. The backpack will automatically scan around and let you know if the direction is out of bounds or not.

They can also stand in front of event posters and backpack instructions to add reminders to the calendar to attend. If they ever go to the grocery store, they can ask the AI backpack for the price of the item, if it’s on sale, and can compare prices with other stores.

Microsoft says the AI-powered smart wearable can act as a hands-free digital assistant. Wearables are ambient-aware so the user can provide contextual commands related to the environment the user is in. Wearables can understand contextual commands by sensing the environment and using artificial intelligence.

This process is described by Microsoft as 6 steps. When the backpack receives a command, it automatically detects its surroundings through sensors and sends it to the AI engine. The server interprets the information through speech recognition and natural language processing. The AI then returns with a response, for example, an answer to a query, confirming that the task has been completed or prompting to ask the user for more information.

There aren’t many AI backpacks on the market right now. Popular laptop bag maker Targus introduced the 15.6-inch Cypress Hero backpack last year. This backpack is integrated with Apple Find My technology and has a rechargeable battery for 150 USD. Intel in 2021 also launched an AI backpack with built-in GPS, helping visually impaired people scan the world around them. So if it can commercialize its products, Microsoft will lead the trend.
