Starfield has not yet officially launched, a mod has appeared to convert graphics technology from AMD’s FSR to Nvidia’s DLSS.

According to Neowin, AMD announced a partnership with Bethesda Studios earlier this year, specifically for the space RPG Starfield highly anticipated. Recently, a leak from the game’s preload files suggested that the PC version will not support Nvidia’s DLSS or Intel’s XeSS technology. It can be seen that Starfield will only support AMD’s FSR graphics upgrade technology, at least during the initial launch.

However, one player has prepared a mod for DLSS since the first day the game opened early access. This new mod allows DLSS technology to replace AMD’s FSR, bringing improved image quality to gamers using Nvidia graphics cards.

Created by modder PureDark, the ‘Starfield Upscaler’ mod allows players to enable the DLSS option in the graphics settings instead of AMD FSR. To install, users must extract the mod files into the Starfield folder and add some necessary DLL files. When enabling the mod, players will receive a menu to adjust DLSS settings when pressing the End button in the game.

With AMD being the exclusive partner of Starfield, this explains the default integration for FSR 2.0 in the game. However, if Bethesda so wishes, AMD’s head of game marketing, Frank Azor, has expressed openness to adding DLSS support in a future update to the game.

Meanwhile, the ‘Starfield Upscaler’ mod claims to give around 75% of PC gamers with Nvidia graphics cards take advantage of dedicated AI graphics upscaling. According to PC Gamer, this mod is working perfectly.

In other news, AMD announced the third version of its FSR graphics technology at Gamescom 2023. FSR 3 Frame Generation is said to help PC and Console games increase frame rates to very high levels. This technology is expected to be added to Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum via September patches. But Starfield currently supports the older FSR 2.0.
