A new report from user @yeux1122 on the Korean blog Naver shows that Apple plans to launch Touch ID under the screen 2 – 3 years after introducing Face ID under the screen.

According to BGR , Face ID under the screen is expected to arrive in 2024 through the iPhone 16 Pro line . DSCC analyst Ross Young said Apple hasn’t adopted the technology yet, not because they can’t, but mainly for marketing purposes.

Apple is now betting on Dynamic Island for the iPhone 14 Pro models, the company is said to expand the feature to all iPhone 15 models later this year. But with the iPhone 16 Pro, the company will remove Dynamic Island to switch to Face ID under the screen.

If everything goes as reported by @yeux1122, users will see Touch ID under the screen appear in 2026. That’s when Apple will move both the front camera and Face ID panel to the bottom of the screen.

While many are still waiting for Apple to bring Touch ID back to the iPhone, it’s unclear if the company will actually do so. Because Face ID is more secure, over the years, Apple may have worked on how to bring Touch ID to smartphones by implementing it into the power button, just like it did with the iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad 10.

Even so, Apple seems to have no interest in this technology anymore. Over the next three years, the company will focus on other things, such as expanding headsets from mixed reality to augmented reality and foldable devices. That said, only time will tell whether Apple will actually revive Touch ID on the iPhone.
