A cybersecurity company claims that after asking ChatGPT to identify any fresh Mac security issues, it discovered malware being sold on a Russian server.
ShadowVault was recently found by Guardz Cyber Intelligence Research (CIR), which has now reported that it has also made another finding that was first uncovered using artificial intelligence.

We asked ChatGPT what additional threats to macOS hide somewhere in the Dark Web.According to what has come to light, ChatGPT first told the corporation that “yes, chances are there are other cyber threats for macOS on the Dark Web.” The group said, “Our researchers have returned to explore the depths of cybercrime to authenticate this track,” inspired by ChatGPT. The tip led to the finding of malware for sale on the Russian “Exploit” cybercrime site. Hidden Virtual Network Computing (HVNC) malware preys on legitimate HVNC program usage patterns to remotely control other PCs.
In this instance, it implies that a potential attacker may use this virus to take control of a victim’s Mac without the user even being aware of it. This HVNC virus is advertised as being available for “a lifetime price of $60,000” and comes with the option to purchase “further malignant capacity” for an extra $20,000 in price. Guardz claims that the virus has been available for purchase since April 2023, but as of yet, there have been no indications of its use.
