Some MSI motherboard users have started experiencing the blue screen of death (BSOD) phenomenon, after updating to one of the latest Windows 11 updates.
According to PCMag, the current problem seems to be related to specific MSI boards, so users need to check what their motherboard is before downloading the update. The update causing the problem was KB5029351 released for Windows 11 earlier this month. The affected MSI motherboards are from the Intel 600 and 700 series, so the manufacturer has advised users to avoid the update if they do not have it installed.
The error is called UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR. If you have encountered this problem, users can perform a temporary workaround as instructed by MSI before Microsoft releases an official fix. According to MSI, KB5029351 can be automatically uninstalled to allow Windows to restore to a normal state. But if KB5029351 is not uninstalled automatically, users are advised to revert their BIOS to the previous version and uninstall KB5029351 from Windows.
Currently, both MSI and Microsoft have grasped the issue and both companies are actively looking for the cause. However, there is no exact timetable for when the two companies will release the final fix. In the meantime, users should pause Windows 11 operating system updates if they have an MSI motherboard.
