In the near future, iPhone screen repair shops may be able to fix some lock screen problems without removing or even turning off the screen.

According to BGR, this is achieved thanks to the laser technology that has been used to produce OLED panels for mobile devices. Although the iPhone screen is quite durable, accidents can still occur resulting in damage or malfunction during use

To fix the problem, users often have to resort to screen repair services, which can cost up to $329 without AppleCare+, or about a third of the cost of an iPhone 14 Pro. That’s not to mention phone data can be wiped clean if a backup has not been performed.

Now, the newly developed laser-based OLED screen repair technology will make it easier to solve the problem. It can fix stripes that appear on OLED screens – a fairly common type of problem and often requires a costly entire screen replacement whether it’s an iPhone or an Android device.

The laser machine can remove the lines by correcting invisible traces inside the OLED panel and restoring the current. It can perform iPhone screen repair without removing or even turning off the screen. This way, the screener will know immediately if they can get those little lines back.

The process is fast and results in significantly cheaper iPhone screen repairs. Most people probably won’t have to have their screens replaced, and shops can increase the amount of repair work done per day.

repairs Even so, laser-based OLED screens aren’t always perfect. It does not work if the glass covering the OLED panel is broken as well as the screen has problems with water. More importantly, one of these machines will cost around $12,000 – a huge investment for any repair shop.

It’s still unclear whether Apple uses laser iPhone screen repair technology, or if Apple offers support to authorized partners
