Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has just said that Apple is developing its own AI chatbot “Apple GPT” in the wake of ChatGPT from OpenAI and Google Bard.
According to BGR, Gurman noted that Apple has no plans to release the technology to consumers yet, instead, the company uses this AI chatbot internally to develop prototypes and improve existing products
Sources familiar with the Apple effort say that several teams are collaborating on a large language modeling framework called Ajax to power the aforementioned chatbot. Currently, Apple’s best attempt at artificial intelligence (AI) is Siri, but the company is said to be struggling to improve the personal assistant due to the way it was developed.
With the upcoming iOS 17, Apple has announced AI-first initiatives with many machine learning improvements, such as better language models for autocorrect, removing “Hey” from “Hey Siri”, and Spotlight improvements to make it easier to find photos and more.
Mr. Gurman added that Apple now tries to ignore reports of it losing the AI war, but the company itself is increasingly concerned about missing out on an important change in the way devices work. Next-generation AI is proving capable of changing the way people interact with phones, computers, and other technologies.
Also according to Gurman, Search, Siri, and Maps are now receiving significant enhancements related to Apple GPT, where the technology will be used to create large language models and serve as the foundation for an internal ChatGPT-style . engine Mr. Gurman said Apple GPT is supposed to copy Bard, ChatGPT and Bing Chat without bringing any groundbreaking features
