What to do if your Twitter account has been hacked

Suppose You can no longer be connected to your Twitter account. And It sends spam to your friends or publishes tweets in your timeline without your knowledge. Indeed, your Twitter account has been hacked. But rest assured, there are several ways you can restore your account, and especially protect it from hacking attempts.

1 Change password

Whether you have your Gmail, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram account hacked, you must first change your password. But be careful, who says changing a password clearly means it’s safe. So forget “asdfghjkl”, your child’s birth date or your name. Passwords must be at least eight characters long, including uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters. A process that you can do alone or use a password generator. Regarding Twitter now,

  • log into your account and click on Settings.
  • Among all the available tabs, click on Account.
  • now click on password
  • Enter the current password and then enter your new password before saving the changes. It’s done, your account is back under your control and only yours.

2 Use the form in case of total hacking

If a beginner hacks your account, changing your password might be enough to restore your Twitter account. If the latter is a cyber crime specialist, you may no longer be able to access your account because your email address will be changed. In this case, you are advised to contact Twitter Help.

By clicking on Choose another subject, you will access the list of subjects that can be handled by Twitter support. Click on the one that corresponds to your problem and fill out the submitted form.

Finally, be sure to revoke the permission of any third-party applications that may send messages without your knowledge using Twitter. To do this, go to Settings, then Applications, and click on the ones you want to revoke access to.
